Factual Description of Your Examination Room

– by Akshya

At the moment I am writing my Examination paper in the Examination Hall. The paper is of English. I am sitting in the second row writing my answer. This room opens in the long corridor. It is situated on the second floor or my school building. It is rectangular in shape. It has a seating capacity of about fifty students. The white colour on the wall makes the room well-lighted. The sun rays fall through the six windows. These make the room well-lighted and well-ventilated.

There is a long table in front of me, besides the black board on the wall. On it is written ‘Best of Luck’. There are beautiful ‘shlokas’ written on the wall. The room has fixed benches in rows in an ascending order. The seating is comfortable. Wafts of fresh air enter the room. There is no noise now in it. Everything is calm and quiet because the examination is on.

Around me to my left and right, in front of and behind are sitting other examinees. They are busy writing their paper. There is some slight murmur here and there. It is inaudible in the sound of chirping by birds. The whole scene is of seriousness and full concentration of the examinees.

You happened to overhear the following conversation:
Rahul: Where have your planned to go during the summer holidays?
Jeevan: I wish I could go boating on Dal Lake.
Rahul: It is safe to go to Kashmir now? Don’t you hear a lot about terrorism in the newspaper?

On hearing this dialogue you decide to write an article in the local daily on the need to provide security at tourist spots and suggest ways and means by which such spots could be made more attractive to tourists. Using ideas from which such spots could be made more attractive to tourists. Using ideas from the unit on ‘Travel and Tourism’ along with your own ideas, write the article in 150 – 175 words.
Answer:

Need to Provide Security at Tourist Spots

– by Ram

India is a great country as far as weather and tourist spots are concerned. In one comer we have summer, in the other we have winter. Then there are scenes of deserts and scenes of wild nature in its great gloiy. Places of historical importance are in plenty. India’s glorious past comes alive when we visit these places.

But it is really sad that terrorism has affected these places of tourist importance. There are daily news in the newspapers about the sad plight of tourist spots in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir being near to Pakistan is a hot spot of terrorism. There are bomb blasts almost daily in the parts of Kashmir. Innocent lives are lost without their fault. Children become orphans and women widows.

Tourists are a constant source of bread and butter for the people living in them. Their not going there means loss of livelihood to those people. Terrorism has no human face. The govt, no doubt, is doing its utmost to provide security to such places. But a lot more needs to be done.

The information gathering mechanism at both centre and state levels needs to be strengthened. Highly sophisticated gadgets should be procured to intercept the terrorists’ communications. Army should be deployed at most sensitive areas. Terrorists are humanity’s enemies. They should be crushed with an iron hand.

Once there was a crow. He was very thirsty. He flew around in search of water. Soon he saw a pitcher. There was very little water in it and the crow could not drink because he found that the neck of the jug was too narrow. He thought for a while and an idea struck his mind. He took some small stones in his beak and put them in the pitcher one by one. Thus, after some time the stones settled at the base and the level of water rose up. The crow drank water and flew away. Therefore it is said that, ‘where there is a will, there is a way’.

Noise pollution has become one of the big problems in India, affecting the human lives in many ways. We all should know the causes, effects and most importantly the preventive measures of the noise pollution in order to get prevented from the effect of it. Normal level of the sound is necessary to maintain the daily lives, however undesired sound or noise which is not tolerated by the people, animals or plants which causes noise pollution.

In India many festivals and small or big functions are celebrated with great enthusiasms. The use of loud speaker or band is usually used at the time of festivals or functions. High level sound creates unpleasant effects and discomfort to the health especially to the ears. Though the people enjoy the event who takes part in it but many suffer due to this. New generation people play music in full volume and dance late night causing lots of physical and mental disturbances to the neighbours. Mostly it is annoying and inconvenience caused to several people, mainly to the students. Many a time the loudspeakers are used both during night and day by some people. The old age people and the students mainly suffer the most.

The students who are having examination or facing competitive examination, they are not able to concentrate well in their studies, at times when loudspeakers are on high volume. High level of noise slowly affects the health and acts as a slow poison. However, a strict action should be taken for the use of loudspeakers or there should be a restriction on hours as well as volume at which the loudspeakers can play. This is also a way we can keep our environment free and clean from noise pollution.

Write a report in about 120 – 150 words on a “one day match” played by your school team i.e. Maharshi Parsuram H.S., against the team of Maharaja Agrasen H.S. (MP 2015)
Answer:

One Day Cricket Match

20th November, 2016, Jabalpur (Raghu)
Cricket match has became a religion with our youth. Yesterday an interesting Cricket match was played between our school Maharshi Parsuram H. S. and Maharaja Agrasen H.S. at our cricket ground. It was twenty-twenty match. The match drew a huge enthusiastic crowd. Student from both the school had gathered there in large numbers even before the match started. The toss was called. We won the toss. Rajesh and Mukesh opened the innings. Rajesh hit the very first ball over the heads of the fielders for a six. Mukesh also opened his account with a cover drive, and then came the sudden collapse we lost four wickets within an over. But our captain Swarup played well and turned the tide.

He scored half century gave us a respectable total of 160 runs. Now Maharaja Agrasen H. S. started the innings in a great style. Their openers were in a furious mood. When there was 50 for no loss, no one could hope for a victory. But then the most unexpected did take place. Their half of the team was out at 80. Soon a quick knock of 40 by Raj gave them a new hope, but it proved fatel. Our bowlers were again on the top Maharaja Agrasen H. S. was bundled out on 145 runs. We won by a narrow margin in the 20th over. But a victory is always sweet. The members of both the teams had a light refreshment.

You are Anshul Raj. As a responsible citizen, you have organised a campaign on ‘Say no to polythene bags’ in your locality. Write a report in not more than 150 words for publication in a magazine.
Answer:

Say No to Polythene Bags

-Anshul Raj

Plastic is an environment Hazard. Polythene bags are polluting land, water and air because they are non-bio-degradable. A plastic bag if buried in soil will remain there intact even after hundreds of years. Plastic is impermeable to water and air. Hence water cannot percolate down the plastic sheet and it also deprives the soil of the oxygen. Thus it deterio-rates the fertility of the land. Plastic is lighter than water and floats on its surface. It stops mixing of vital oxygen from air to water. Plastic can neither melt in water nor degrade in soil. It is very difficult to get rid of it. Even burning causes air pollution as many poisonous gases are produced in the process. Thinner than five micron plastic bags are especially harmful because if they are mixed in the soil they cannot be picked. We must ban its uses.

Deforestation is imbalancing the Ecosystem. Write your views. (MP 2009, 11, 13)
Answer:

Trees and Forests

1. A tree is a woody plant usually with a single stem. A large area well covered with woody plants is a forest. The woody plants called shrubs and bushes are smaller than trees and have usually more than one main stem. Trees are the largest living things on the Earth, and they live longer than any animal. The tallest trees are mountain ashes. Which have grown to well over 330 feet. The oldest trees are the Californian pines, some of which are more than 4,500 years old.

The age of a tree can be told by counting the rings in the trunk. In most kinds of temperate trees (i.e. grown in neither very hot nor very cold climates), new wood is formed each year in a layer outside the wood of the previous year. The layers of wood, as seen on the cut end of a felled tree, are circular and are called annual rings. Each ring in the trunk of the wood represents one year of the tree’s life. In a year of good rainfall, the ring formed is wider than one formed in. the drier year. A record of rainfall can thus be read in tree rings.

2. Trees are important to our world for a number of reasons. Like all green plants, they build up their food by the process known as photosynthesis . The by-product of this process is oxygen which human beings and other animals take from the atmosphere as they breathe. That is why the great forests have been called the “lungs of the world”. They make much of the oxygen we need to live.

3. Trees are living things like man and animals, they too feel pleasure and joy as well as pain, therefore should not be destroyed. Today due to the destruction of forests, mercilessly we are suffering from its consequence. The temperature of the earth has risen, the rainfall on the earth has declined the amount of poisonous gasses on the earth has increased. Therefore efforts are being made to save forest and to plant more and more trees to save our earth from getting entirely destroyed due to only our selfishness and foolishness.

Write an article for your school magazine on ‘Importance on newspapers in our life’. (MP 2009)
Answer:
Todays world is ruled and run by media. Media provides us with the up-to-date information and newspaper is the oldest family member of media. Today though there are many fast methods of gaining information but still newspaper has its own place and importance in the life of man.

Newspaper not only provides us with information but also help to mould public opinion. Newspaper also provides us a platform to advocate social reforms introduced by the reformers. Press also alerts man against the harmful products sold in the market. It also criticises the government for the wrongs done by her and raises a voice of protest through its special column.

Newspaper no doubt is a very powerful media. It has the power to install or overthrow a government from its power, therefore press owes a great responsibility to be fair and just whenever it prints any news. It is.like a loaded gun that has a power to destroy the peace of a nation.

Newspaper also does great social job by printing an-appeal of a needy family who wishes to approach the social welfare society in her column thus drawing the attention of the charitable trusts.

Thus, we can see how the newspaper serves the nation and also helps in shaping the destiny of a nation.

Describe your childhood in your own words. (MP 2009)
Answer:
Childhood is the golden period in every man’s life. It is that period when they are not worried about anything. It has its own pleasures and pains. In childhood, I used to get tonnes of love and affection. I was pampered and cared and given everything I asked for but within limits I used to find joy and happiness all around me. I enjoyed eating sweets and playing with colourful balls and balloons. As a child, I was a quick learner therefore my elders were very careful when they spoke in front of me, they never used a wrong word in my presence. I had to do what my elders felt was right for me, maybe therefore I desired to growup soon and become free to take up my decision, but I some times do regret and desire for my childhood to return to me even if it is for a flying moment.

Games and Sports are not only means for entertainment but useful in complete personality development They also help a person to live a fit life. Write a composition to highlight “Importance of Games and Sports”. (MP 2010)
Answer:
Games are a necessary part of education. Just as books form part of education, games and sports also form part of education books enlighten the mind, games refresh the body. In a word, books and games are complimentary to each other. For students both are essential, excess of either can be harmful.

There is an old saying that “a healthy mind lives in a healthy body”. It simply means that both games and books are necessary. Good health is absolutely necessary for a person. If a person is always engrossed in books he is bound to be dull and listless. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” reads an old saying. Life is without charm if one is not healthy. And games and sports go a long way in keeping a man healthy and fit.

Games are compulsory in schools. One period is reserved for games. There are many benefits that come to us through games and sports. Firstly they keep us healthy and in good spirits: After a game, one feels refreshed and ready for the work of the day. Games also develop a sense of fellow feeling and comradeship in people. Team games are especially helpful in this regard. They teach us the spirit of following the orders of a fellow player, who happens to be our captain. However games must not be played with the spirit of enmity.

However, excessive indulgence in games is bound to be harmful. Too much play is harmful to health as well. Also spending too much time on the playfield will mean less time for students to study. So there must be a right balance between games and other activities of life.
