Answer the following questions in about 50 words:
Sum up the salutary rules for expenditure suggested by Bacon. (Imp.)
Bacon suggests that we should be discreet in spending. We should spend only a fixed part of our income. We should not rely on our servants and employees. A balance in income and expenditure should be maintained. These are the salutary rules suggested by Bacon.
What does Bacon want to convey when he says, ‘To turn all the certainties’? (MP 2018)
Bacon instructs the readers to curtail their ordinary expenses. They must not spend more that half of their earnings. They should not rely on their servants and employees because they would bring or buy sorrow and uncertainty. They should be certain their indiscreet spending might not prove painful to them.
Distinguish between ordinary and extraordinary expenses in the light of the views expressed by Bacon. (Imp., MP 2016)
Ordinary expenses are normal, routine and unavoidable. They can be calculated in advance. Extraordinary expenses are casual and cannot be foreseen. They are related to medicines, guests, fashion etc.
How far are Bacon’s view relevant to the present time? (Imp.)
Bacon advises his readers to be prudent in spending money. We should spend only half of our income and keep the other half in store for rainy day. Our financial matters should be managed by ourselves. These views are very much relevant. The tumultuous markets have produced such uncertainty, that if we fail to keep our money safe, we may suffer immensely at the hands of rising demand of domestic need and expenditure.
How should riches be spent and husbanded to the best advantage? Support your answer with textual references. (Imp.)
Riches are meant for spending. It should be spent wisely to earn honour. We should not depend on servants in managing our financial matters. Only a fixed portion of our income should be spent. There should be a proper balance between ordinary and extraordinary expense. If something needs more expense, economy should be kept on some other item to balance the excess of expenditure. Thus, a person should be prudent enough in spending money.
